What is Reflexology?

  • Reflexology is a gentle and effective form of complementary therapy involving treatment by massage and stimulation of the reflex areas of the feet and/or hands. The reflexes correspond to all parts and organs of the body.
  • Reflexology is based on the body's meridians or energy channels. Blockages in these energy pathways leads to imbalances in the body causing feelings of tiredness, feeling out of sorts, ill-health and emotional difficulties.
  • By stimulating the reflexes of the feet these imbalances can be rectified, leading to better health.
  • Reflexology is a gentle and usually very enjoyable form of complementary therapy and a state of deep relaxation is often experienced.

The Benefits of Reflexology

Reflexology works on different levels:

  • On an energetic level it clears blockages in the energy system, stimulates the body's own healing mechanisms and rebalances the body to a better state of health.
  • On a biological level, it boosts the immune system, detoxifies the body by aiding the release of toxins, increases circulation and stimulates the nervous system, all of which lead to improved health.

Regular reflexology treatments are a gentle way to restore balance, health and vitality.

What happens during a treatment?

At the first meeting a consultation will take place before the first treatment is given. This usually takes an hour. This is to ascertain any medical history, and so that the treatment can be tailored to the individual's needs.

Subsequent reflexology treatments will last approximately 45 minutes. You remain fully clothed, simply removing your socks and shoes. You will be invited to relax on a massage couch or reclining chair and then a variety of reflexology techniques will be applied to your feet, according to your requirements.

Treatments can be one-off, but a series of 3-6 sessions may be advisable to affect a notable difference. Occasional follow-on treatments may then be given as a 'top-up'.
